The Route

Starting from Lakeside Terminus this page shows the route. Using a wide collection of photographs.
Lakeside station is a 3 platform terminus with an engine release line. The station has a 16' long turn table which is used to turn every engine on arrival. The engine is then shunted around the train, to be ready for departure.

Once the train is shunted it is ready to depart from 1 of the 3 platforms at Lakeside. Once the green signal is given, the train can depart and immediately crosses Lakeside Road crossing, passes the signal box (which is on the right) and manouvers accross the points to the down line.

After leaving the point area the trains moves around a left hand bend and also starts the long climb to the summit. During this climb the train passess over two tree crossing. Which is an open tractor crossing.

The back straight (AKA New BARN BANK) this is a 1 in 65 and a 1 in 50 (in places) decent to New Barn Halt which serves the main car park to the park. New Barn Halt is a 1 platform halt and is served by nearly every train that the SNBR operates. During Gala days New Barn Halt becomes York and Lakeside is renamed Kings Cross. Even the signal box goes through an identity change becoming Belle Isle. The corner into New Barn Halt is a long sweeping right hand corner.

After leaving New Barn Halt (on the up line). The journey still continues down hill over another crossing (New Barn Foot crossing) then continues around a very gradual right hand bend until the train reaches Cherry tree which marks the beginning of the uphill journey. On the uphill journey the train moves over an S bend which is the remains of a proposed passing loop (which was never constructed), before diving into a deep cutting.

After the deep bank the train is now approaching the signal box and the station. At this point on the left is the large Yard layout.
