In recent years the SNBR has taken several engines on loan and so it is only fair to give
them some credit.
GG1
GG1 - this 20 wheel monster came on loan to the SNBR straight from Mardykes sheds for the 2000 Kestrel
gala. The engine was slightly renovated and the springing system altered to be softer and she ran at the
SNBR for almost 6 months. She was capable of pulling 5 carriages and had a unique drive system to its power bogies.
Pinza
This again came on loan for the Kestrel gala of 2000. The engine was gain a Mardyke and can
be seen in the picture towing our Hymek back to the shed. Like the GG1 she was a petrol. She only
has one power bogie and could only cope with a 3 coach train (1 coach more than when she first arrived!!!). Pinza resides
at the Great cockrow railway and is owned by the very well known Ian Allan. She never runs passenger trains at the GCR and was
in dire need of a refit when she arrived. Not only was she repainted but the weight distribution was altered and the whole engine
overhauled in just 2 weeks.
Bluebell
Bluebell was the first engine to come on loan from Castle Miniature Railways. The engine is presently up for sale and is used occassionally
by the SNBR. She is tinkerbell class locomotive 0-4-2t and can handle about 7 coaches around the SNBR but due to her brake system this is not tried
with passengers unless another engine is added as a breakman. She should return to Sussex this winter if she is not purchased before then.
Class 91, Big Blue Diesel, Hartfield flyer and a mercant navy
These engines have all appeared and some returned to Castle miniature railway none of these engines were/are in service long enough to actively record there
workings. They are here as a courtesy in case someone remembers travelling behind one once!!!
The Bagnal, Was on a 3 day loan from BCLR
The Bagnal is an amazing little beast that joined the SNBR Sir Goss birthday bash,
despite being "an ickle petrol" she powered a 5 car set for the whole weekend. Earning
much respect.
Tinkerbell. Was on loan for the 2006 Christmas specials from the MVR
The "original" Tinkerbell was loaned to the SNBR to help out the 2006 Santa Specials. The engine was built in 1968 and is regarded as the first "proper" sit in Narrow
gauge engine. For more information on Tinkerbell and the varient engines it has sporned please visit the Moors Valley Railway (links page will send you to them!).
Engines visiting for the day or loans before 2000 are not included. There would be too many to list.
